How to setup your computer to receive the
MathML Conference via Internet Video Streaming:

  1. Download QuickTime Player version 6 (for Windows and Macintosh - recommended)
    or
Download QuickTime Player version 6 DEMO (for Linux - experimental!)

  2. Install QuickTime 6 Player following the instructions and set up the connection speed for your computer (actually a bandwidth of at least 128 Kbps is suggested for a better experience, but a lower bandwidth may also work).

  3. Start QuickTime 6 Player and from the "File" menu select "Open URL in New Player..." and enter this address: rtsp://webcast.ictp.trieste.it/sample_100kbit.mp4 to test the audio-video streaming with a sample movie (Note than you'll be able to hear only audio if your connection is very slow).

  4. Then, If you have a high-bandwidth connection (at least 300 Kbit/sec) you can test a higher-resolution video at this address: rtsp://webcast.ictp.trieste.it/sample_300kbit.mp4 (open the URL with QuickTime 6 Player, menu "File - Open URL in New Player...").

  5. Please note that live audio-video streamings will be active only during the MathML Conference events, but the sample movies are always available (see point 3 and 4).

  6. Once QuickTime Player has been installed and tested, you can use Netscape or Internet Explorer in Windows or Macintosh to enjoy the live audio-video streaming, just following these links (other browsers/operating systems may be eventually unable to visualize the video embedded in the webpage, in this case go to point 7):
High resolution - high bandwidth audio-video streaming.
The Low resolution - low bandwidth audio-video streaming will not be available on Friday, 22th.

  7. Instead you can also open directly the audio-video streams using the QuickTime Player (as explained at points 3 and 4) at these URLs: rtsp://webcast.ictp.trieste.it/MathML.sdp and rtsp://webcast.ictp.trieste.it/MathMLlow.sdp respectively for high and low bandwidth connections. Remember also to join the conference discussions online in the WEBCHAT! (Join us in the main "Lobby" room, after user registration and login).

  8. NEW: The archive of the past video streams is now available: you can receive in streaming the previous conference sessions you missed... Just GO TO THE VIDEO ARCHIVE.

if you experience problems with Internet Explorer for Windows, versions 5.5 SP2 and 6.0, give a look to this page: http://developer.apple.com/quicktime/compatibility.html
An other issue can be when you get an error message stating "bad connection" using I.E. under Windows: in this case try to clean the browser cache and restart.
